When Crime Occurs

Report a crime If you see a crime in progress, call the police!

Only call 911 from a land line!

From a cell phone call 510-777-3211 which routes directly to OPD dispatch.

To report a crime that has already happened, call the non-emergency number 510-777-3333, or fill in OPD's Online Crime Reporting form.  You'll find the link on their Report a Crime page.

For MEDICAL OR FIRE EMERGENCIES ONLY, you can call the Fire Department directly at 510-444-1616.  They may respond faster than OPD.

The monthly crime statistics for January 2022, for beats 12Y and 13X, are now available on http://rockridgencpc.com,  under Resources > Crime Stats and Maps > Rockridge Crime Trends 2021-2022.  Here’s a direct link to the page:

Numbers for January seem to show that, although crimes against the person are up slightly, all other kinds of crime are down.  However, I believe (and others who study this agree with me) that the numbers aren’t complete.  Specifically, between 1/19/22 and 1/30/22, the file shows a total of 4 reported crimes of any sort in beat 12Y!  Four reported crimes in 11 days, in beat 12Y, is unbelievable.  Beat 13X showed a total of 22 crimes for the month, also oddly distributed, but for beat 13X this isn’t that unusual.

I’ve reported this issue to the city (and to any other Neighborhood Council members who may follow these data).  I have yet to hear from anyone about corrections to the data, so I’m publishing what I have, with this warning.  If and when I get a more complete file of reported crimes for either or both beats, I will report the month again later.
