When Crime Occurs

Report a crime If you see a crime in progress, call the police!

Only call 911 from a land line! Cell phone calls to 911 go directly to CHP in Martinez and have to be forwarded.

From a cell phone call 510-777-3211 which routes directly to OPD dispatch.

To report a crime that has already happened:

Call the non-emergency number 510-777-3333, or fill in OPD's Online Crime Reporting form. You'll find the link on their Report a Crime page. We've been warned that the form is easier to fill out on a laptop or desktop than it is on a smartphone.

For MEDICAL OR FIRE EMERGENCIES ONLY, call the Fire Department directly at 510-444-1616. They respond faster than OPD.

Crime statistics

The monthly crime statistics for August 2020, for beats 12Y and 13X, are now available on http://rockridgencpc.com, under Resources > Crime Stats and Maps > Rockridge Crime Trends 2019-2020. Here’s a direct link to the page:

Crime was down substantially in August in both beats. Between the 2 beats, 46 incidents were reported, 31 in 12Y and 15 in 13X. We haven’t had that few crimes reported in these beats since April 2018 (45) and May 2018 (32); and before those months we haven’t recorded this few crimes since I began keeping statistics in 2014.

The only categories that increased in August were in 13X: crimes against the person (doubled, from 1 to 2) and property crimes, auto (increased from 3 to 8). Either it was too hot for the crooks to come out, or people have quit reporting crimes. Remember, if you experience a crime and don’t report it, it doesn’t turn up in this list.
